This Is for Everyone: Iniversal Principles of Healing Prayer and the Jewish Mystics
Published in Paperback by Larson Pubn (November, 1999)
Authors: Douglas Hirsch Goldhamer, Melissa Stengel, Douglas Goldhammer, and Melinda Stengel
Average review score:

I am Everyone
Being raised a Catholic with all the guilt connected to that religion, I found the Rabbi's and Ms. Stengel's approach to God/Higher Power to be not only refreshing for me, but very user friendly. They gave me a lot to think about and a lot to use. This book and it's contents ARE for everyone.

This Is INDEED for Everyone
I'm not sure if it is because I am a Presbyterian, or in spite of it (it could have been Emerson and Thoreau), that I believe there is a little piece of God in each of us. My misconception was that we were to wait for the God in us to come out. Rabbi Goldhamer has shown me the way to the light and I will eagerly seek Him/Her out within myself. My review is that the book in enlightening and inspirational and my list of people to give it to keeps growing the more I reflect upon its content. Thanks for sharing what you know and practice with the rest of us.

This Is War!: A Photo Narrative of the Korean War
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Company (July, 1990)
Authors: David Douglas Duncan and Harrison Evans Salisbury
Average review score:

This is War!
My father, who was an artillery Captain in the Philippines during WWII, frequently pulled this book off the shelf to show me what war was like. He said that it was as close as you could get without actually being there. He died before he could see "Saving Private Ryan," but I think he would still say so even after seeing the movie.

BEING THERE THRU THE CAMERA LENS
This is THE most unforgettable view of the first days of the then called "Police Action" in Korea. Author Duncan lived with the men and portrayed all the comraderie, terror and fear that they did. His work makes an indelable image in our mind & is easy to grasp the magnatude of it. My now deceased husband was one of those young Marines and one of the walking wounded who lived in pain his whole life. He treasured this book and knew the subjects. He found it a way to bury his emotions and go on with a "normal" lifestyle. This book had to help Truman change and understand it was not a simple mop-up action....but This WAS War! Although out of print, my family is trying to get copies to pass on to their children to help us better understand their father. It is especially appropriate at this time when attention is being given the Korean Conflict's 50th anniversary. I wish they would reprint it and distribute a copy to all high school and college libraries.

The Tree in the Ancient Forest
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Carol Reed-Jones and Christopher Canyon
Average review score:

Life in a conifer forest, up close & vivid!
Come into a deep, old northern forest where trees reach for the sky, hundreds of feet high. Where their roots beneath the duff, spread out in vast tendrils seeking food, creating food for voles & mice, who, in turn, are fattened up for the owls hunting for food for their owlets.

Carol Reed-Jones has created a lyrical story of life around an old-growth fir tree, & Christopher Canyon's illustrations are bright, powerful & absorbing.

A keeper, its story is delightful & its images memorable.

Outstanding depiction of the Circle of Life!
"The Tree in the Ancient Forest" depicts the"circle of life" concept in a beautifully presented, easilyread format. The author, Carol Reed-Jones captures the essence of the importance and beauty of an ancient forest, presenting a different element on each page. Christopher Canyon's illustrations offer additional beauty to the ideas penned by the author. A wonderful book for children and adults alike -- a great gift book for the ecologically-minded, nature-lover! Highly recommended!

Trials of the Earth: The Autobiography of Mary Hamilton
Published in Hardcover by Univ Pr of Mississippi (Trd) (October, 1992)
Authors: Mary Hamilton, Helen Dick Davis, and Ellen Douglas
Average review score:

Great details of family life as wilderness became society.
A great historical account of family life as the wilderness of the Mississippi Delta was slowly transformed into an agilcultural society and a place where many call home. This book takes you back to how hard life was for those who paved the way to where we are today.

excellent reading for lovers of southern history
As a native of Mississippi and a woman, I appreciate the historical value of this story. I loved the fact that the reader knows Mrs. Hamilton was not a professional writer (she says in the intro that she had only written letters before Helen Dick Davis asked her to write out her memoirs), but nonetheless, she eloquently and honestly told her story. Although this book is an autobiography, it reads much like fiction. It is an enthralling story and held my attention like few autobiographies or biographies do.

Up Ship!: A History of the U.S. Navy's Rigid Airships 1919-1935
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (October, 1982)
Author: Douglas Hill Robinson
Average review score:

Up Ship!
An outstanding work, superbly ullustrated, which tells one not only everything one needs to know about the U.S. Navy's airship program, but also provides a full description of the technical aspects of airship design, construction and operation -- information applicable to all airships, not just those of the USN. A very balanced presentation in which the author displays both an appreciation of the romantic nature of airships, and an awareness of their limitations.

One of the best books on the US Navy airship program!
Douglas Robinson is one of the best-known historians of the airship with good reason. This book delves into the politics, the men, and the ships of the US Navy airship program & gives a very complete picture of the what was done right, what was done wrong, and why the program eventually met its fate.

Van Gogh and Gauguin: The Studio of the South
Published in Paperback by Art Institute of Chicago Museum (September, 1901)
Authors: Douglas W. Druick, Peter Zegers, Bruce Salvesen, Kristin Lister, Britt Salvesen, Mary C. Weaver, Art Institute of Chicago, and Rijksmuseum Vincent Van Gogh
Average review score:

Eldorado
"Van Gogh and Gauguin: The Studio of the South" is a great and rare achievement, since it captures the atmosphere of artists lives as no other book or film has done in the past, being magnificently precise in details and facts, yet sensitive to the personal aesthetic visions of Van Gogh and Gauguin. Armed with wonderful maps, charts, photographs and documents the authors explore the "geography" of artistic process and communication between two men. I kept going to the exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago, and back to consult the book: they acted as an artwork in time and space, yet an object on the table - all at once. This book has finally answered lots of questions, and most importantly - it has made two artists and their visions closer to us as never before.

An insightful exploration of the Arles period
Collaborative conservators and Art Institute of Chicago curators Douglas Druick and Peter Zegers have drawn upon the rich, scholarly literature, letters and writings, and new technical investigations focused on the artists Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, to present the most thorough, comprehensive, and insightful exploration of the Arles period to date. Landscapes and portraits painted in tandem by these two outstanding artists, their responses to each other, work together to envision vigorous dialogue occasioned by their strong personalities. Here presented for art students are fresh perspectives on Van Gogh and Gauguin's best-known works, as well as some of the more obscure aspects of their lives and their world. The informative, 424 page text is enhanced with 475 illustrations (300 of which are in full color). No personal, academic, or community library collection on the history of western art can be considered complete without the inclusion of Van Gogh And Gauguin: The Studio Of The South. This superb art history and analysis is also available in a hardcover format (Thames & Hudson, 0500510547, ...).

Vegas 4 Editing Workshop
Published in Paperback by CMP Books (June, 2003)
Authors: Douglas Spotted Eagle and Douglas Spotted Eagle
Average review score:

On the Spot
Nobody has read this book yet, as it has not been released at the time of this writing - but all you have to due is check out the Vegas forum at CreativeCow.net to know that Grammy-winner Douglas Spotted-Eagle (Spot) knows Vegas inside-out.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas 4 is very different from Premiere, Edition, Avid and Final Cut Pro. Once you've spent time with it and Spot's tips, tricks and short cuts, you'll never look at another NLE.

Vegas not an entry level
First of, You read the Editors review, did he actually said that Vegas was an "entry level" NLE system? Yes he did, but he is wrong. The guy that wrote that doesnt seems to know what he is talking about ;) Many of the things you can do with with Adobe Premiere or even Avid you can do in Vegas also. So why does he still call it an entry level, well frankly, i think he was mistaken it by Video Factory by the same company. All this said, Vegas is professional, or at least NOT entry level as other software, like Video Factory.

Back to Mr Douglas, he is indeed a forefronter, he have won his Emmy and Grammy awards and its not for any reason, so you can say that he have proven his good work in this book. In this book he tries to show you what he knows and i think he has done this in a simple yet professional way. If you want to get into semi-pro or even professional NLE, i think this is the book for you.

Let me put it this way, when i first started with video editing, i tried out differente software, but no one of them was as good as Vegas. Vegas wont be any better then you fantasy or imagination. Can you release all you fantasy, only then you can get the full power in the software.
